Better and more thorough student assessments with LMS systems from Haldor

The Norwegian municipality of Sogndal, which has long commute distances and a particular need for good communication tools, uses Microsoft Teams every day.

When the time came to select a new digital learning platform for the schools, they opted for Haldor, partly because the system works well with Teams but also because it could be customised to meet their preferences and needs.

“In connection with the municipal merger last year, we introduced Visma Move School, an administrative system for schools. It covers many needs, but lacks the option for plans and continuous assessment directly in the student’s assignments. We were therefore looking for an LMS system that included these features, and that also worked with Teams, and Haldor turned out to offer everything we needed,” says Bente Mossige Ask, educational IT advisor for schools and preschools in Sogndal municipality.

According to Ask, it was also crucial that Haldor could offer a module-based solution that allows the schools to select the features they need. And when new needs arise, they can easily add features and expand the system, of course backed up by full training from the Haldor team.

No unnecessary duplication of work

An LMS system from Haldor allows teachers and educators to avoid all the unnecessary duplication of work. The tool is based on Microsoft Office 365 and Teams and offers a number of smart features for plans, communication and evaluation. You add the features you need to create a custom made tool that contributes to improved efficiency in the workplace.

“Last year we introduced Visma Flyt Skole, an administrative system for schools. It covers many needs, but lacks the option for plans and continuous assessment directly in the student’s assignments. We were therefore looking for an LMS system that included these features, and that also worked with Teams, and Haldor turned out to offer everything we needed.”

Retrieves knowledge goals directly from the Norwegian school authority

The schools in Sogndal municipality have now started to use Haldor Planning, a tool that makes it easy for teachers to set timetables and plan teaching.

“A major advantage of this tool is that you can download knowledge goals digitally from the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training (Utdanningsdirektoratet) and evaluate students and assignments directly in relation to their goals. It provides more thorough student assessments, something that benefits both teachers and students alike,” says Ask.

She also adds that the feedback from the teachers has been very positive, and that those using the system actively perceive that everyday work has been made more efficient.

“The feedback from teachers is that they have a time-saving tool that is ideal for planning lessons digitally, and although it naturally takes time for everyone to get up to speed, more and more people are opting to use it.”

Good cooperation has been crucial for the implementation work

Sogndal has recently replaced several old systems, and the employees in the municipality have therefore learned many new things over a short period. The close and good collaboration with Haldor has therefore been key, in particular for the implementation work.

“I really have nothing but praise for the team at Haldor. They are pleasant, logical and always answer questions quickly, which has been especially important for those of us who are in the middle of a major adjustment process, where a lot of teachers have had to learn several new systems simultaneously.”
